The Skull of the King

King Philip was a Napoleon in his time,
he became lord of petty Macedonia
and other lands that could not resist his armies.

When he died, his son became even mightier,
As Alexander the Great he was the conqueror
of all Europe and Asia, laid low by his armies.

Alexander had the notion he would glorify his father,
the dead king, and so he opened up his grave,
wanting to bury treasures with the warrior’s bones.

There he beheld a heap of skulls, of skeletons
                    embracing.
The Emperor became confused:
How should he divide the treasure--
how much to the king, how much to his thousands
                        slaves?
